Opening Address

by Jeanne Bernish on September 15, 2011

A crowded Grand Ballroom at the Governor Hotel was the setting for the opening remarks at the 2011 Convening in Portland, Orgeon. The Honorable Sam Adams, Mayor, City of Portland addressed a full house – 83 different communities from Waxahachie to Ann Arbor. Said Adams “you can’t be a smart city with a dumb system of education.”

…The problem with live blogging from an event like this can be encapsulated in the simple fact that the original registration cut-off planned for this Conference was 175.The Conference WiFi was quickly overwhelmed by more than 340 devices so that by the time Jeff Edmondson stepped up to introduce “Lessons from the Front Line: Sites Share Their Progress and Challenges” I could’t send a tweet much less upload a photo. The hotel staff quickly added another Router to the mix so hopefully blog posts from the rest of the plenary sessions will be forthcoming! Some Tweets from this morning’s session,…
